Abgesehen von der PDF-Unterstützung hat Firefox 19 auch neue Schutzmechanismen: Wie Microsofts Internet Explorer 10 blockiert Mozilla nun Änderungen am Standardsuchanbieter. Will ein Programm eine zusätzliche Suchleiste installieren, eine sogenannte Toolbar, gibt das Programm beim nächsten Start einen entsprechenden Hinweis. Dann soll der User mit einem Klick entscheiden können, ob die alte Suchmaschine beibehalten oder durch die neue ersetzt werden soll. Außerdem startet der Browser etwas schneller und bietet neue Möglichkeiten für Entwickler.
Nicht nur die Desktop-Version bekam neue Funktionen spendiert, Firefox 19 wurde auch für Android-Geräte überarbeitet. Erstmals sollen auch schwachbrüstigere ARMv6-Prozessoren unterstützt werden, wie sie beispielsweise in verschiedenen älteren Geräten von Samsung, Motorola, LG oder HTC verbaut sind.
